This is an account of savings established solely for the individual or family that has contributed to that account.

This is a program that gives the family or individual to save long term and accrue the amount to pay their medical bills while paying premiums on a High-Deductible Health Plan. A High-Deductible Health Plan has annual deductibles and higher out-of-pocket expense. Out-of-pocket expenses can include but are not limited to things such as a deductible, co-payment or coinsurance. Unicare insurance provide with the H.S.A. Compatible insurance plans. However, Health Savings Accounts aren’t administered directly by Unicare, but a qualified bank or financial institution. So now you understand what a Health Savings Account is, how do you know you would benefit from one?

Your Unicare Health plan works in conjunction with you High-Deductible Health Plan and helps provide benefits for covered medical services once you have met your deductible. Although many medical services are covered, there are some that are excluded from you Health Savings Account. It’s best that you check your policy booklet you will receive from your Unicare service agent to question which services are covered and which are not. Some medical expenses that are covered still cannot be withdrawn without and IRS penalty, so it might be a good idea to consult your tax agent or specialists before allowing the withdrawal from the account. There are also eligibility requirements to be necessary to be met before your insurance agent can right your policy.

Some of the requirements include but are not limited to the applicant must be 64 ½ years or younger as well as the applicant’s spouse, able to meet UNICARE’S underwriting guidelines, you must be covered under the high-deductible health plan, you may not be entitled for Medicare benefits, you may not be claimed as a dependent on another person’s tax return. Even though there are many requirements listed here, it’s recommended that you contact your UNICARE of Texas insurance specialist to discuss which plan best suits you.
